HOWTO: Setting Up Google API keys for Safe Browsing support in WebMarshal

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal 7.4.1 and above
  • Google Web Risk API support

Question:

  • Why do I need my own Google API Key to enable Google Web Risk in WebMarshal?
  • How do I get a credential for Google Web Risk?

Information:

In WebMarshal 7.4.1 and above, each customer must use a unique Google API Key to enable Google Web Risk support in accordance with Google Terms of Service.

To learn more about Google Web Risk and get a credential, see https://cloud.google.com/web-risk and click "sign up for beta".

To use the key in WebMarshal:

  1. In the WebMarshal Console, enter your Google API Key in the Google Web Risk window or the Configuration Wizard.
  2. Enable Google Web Risk and be sure to commit configuration.

Due to request limits set by Google, it could take a few minutes for Google Web Risk to become active.

To check that Google Web Risk is being applied to requests, use the WebMarshal Policy Tester for any URL and view the Detailed Trace tab. When Google Web Risk is active, you will see the Google Web Risk result near the top of the detailed trace results.

You can monitor usage of the API Key on the Google APIs Dashboard.
