This article applies to:

  • SEG Cloud
  • Provisioning
  • Implementation or cutover for inbound email

Question:

  • What is the recommended procedure to begin sending inbound messages through SEG Cloud?

Information:

The suggested procedure is as follows:

  1. Retrieve the current DNS TTL for the domain.
  2. Set the TTL for the domain to 10 minutes (to allow quick update when cutting over).
  3. Wait for current TTL + 24 hours for propagation.
  4. Update MX records to the required SEG Cloud address - see article Q21095. Ensure NO other MX records are entered.
  5. Wait 24 hours – then check that all valid inbound email is being delivered through SEG Cloud.
  6. Enable rules on the local firewall, or in the cloud mailbox service, to deny inbound messages from any addresses other than SEG Cloud. For help with settings for some common cloud services, see SEG Cloud Documentation.
  7. Reset the TTL to a longer value.
